The initial inspiration to form the Hafnia Chamber Orchestra came from
the impulse to provide the Danish capital with a string orchestra
combining the experience of young musicians from various international
professional orchestras and the talent and aspirations of students from
the Soloist Class at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen.
This sixteen-piece ensemble focuses on varied repertoire for string
orchestra, encompassing works from early classical to contemporary.
The orchestra's name derives from the Latin name for Copenhagen.
Evidenced in the orchestra’s foreign and local membership, this name
also evokes a mixture of international character and Copenhagen roots.
Each musician has, by means of nationality, education, or performing
career, a strong connection with Denmark in general and with Copenhagen
in particular. Hafnia is lead by the young Dutch conductor Simon
Casali.

In the summer of 2005, the Hafnia Chamber Orchestra was introduced to
the public in a series of three concerts performed in Copenhagen and
Odense. Since then, the orchestra has performed throughout Denmark and
toured in Germany, Vietnam and Israel.
