Celebrating Felix
Mendelssohn’s 200th birthday, Hafnia presents his thirteen
String Symphonies in several concerts throughout the year.
These pieces, modeled after the rich early-classical German
tradition, were written by a child prodigy of only 12 to 14
years of age.
The year 1809 marks not only the birth of a boy genius, but
also the end of Joseph Haydn’s life. To commemorate Haydn’s
200th anniversary, around Easter time Hafnia presents a
series of concerts in various cities across Denmark. We will
celebrate Haydn through one of his most dramatic and
fascinating works, The Seven Lasts Words.
In cooperation with the Danish Belcanto Society, in May
Hafnia presents one of Gaettano Donizetti’s last operas,
Maria di Rohan, and in November Giuseppe Verdi’s first
operatic work, Oberto. Works by other composers are
programmed throughout the year. Among them: Dvorak, Gade,
Schubert, and Shostakovich.
We wish you a wonderful year and hope to welcome you to our
concerts in Denmark or abroad.
